Is it getting too Chilly in Minnesota for Zygi Wilf?

The dream season in Minnesota is turning out to be more of a nightmare for the Vikings. Brett Favre isn't having the same kind of season he did last year, and after the Randy Moss saga, it looks like owner Zygi Wilf is looking at changing more than just his jacket because of the dropping temperatures. ESPN reports now that Wilf considered firing head coach Brad Childress and keeping Randy Moss. It sounds like he was just a little upset.

I don't think things could get much worse for Vikings fans. Since I live here in Minnesota it is hard to avoid the news stories and hear all my friends and co-workers lament yet another lost season for the Vikes. It seems like the team has had a curse on it of  "almost". Last year was the closest they have been to the Super Bowl since 1998. (I don't count the 41-0 beating they got by the Giants at the end of the 2000 season.) No, the only thing that could make the situation worse would be if Childress would totally lose control of the team. If something happened like arguing with a second year player at practice, oh wait, that happened yesterday. Apparently he got into an argument with Percy Harvin after questioning his effort. Percy was returning from an injury which was supposedly an ankle, but it looks like it was more of hurt feelings after he learned that Randy Moss was waived.

Don't worry Coach Childress. I think your job will be secure, as long as you win all the rest of the games on the schedule, including the playoffs and the Super Bowl. However, if you lose the game on December 5th against the Buffalo Bills (especially if that ends up being their only win) then you might as well start looking for a new job somewhere. I hear the University Of Minnesota Gophers need a new coach. With their record and coaching controversy the past several years you might be a perfect fit!

Reggie Bush, shame on you!

Reggie Bush, you were very bad. Look what you did! While attending USC you allegedly took some gifts. You should have realized that a college athlete can't do that. You are an amateur and cannot be paid or get any kind of benefits.

The college just wants you to get a good education and while you are there, help win a few games. Why do they want you to do that? Well, they get higher attendance at the games, sell more in the concessions, and of course the TV deals with the networks. Lot's of money for the school there if the team does well. So Reggie, you were supposed to just go to school, maybe work part time at Burger King so you have some spending money and let the school reap the rewards of your skills as a football player. Oh, don't forget licensing for jersey sales and other merchandise with the school logo on it. Kids all over the country that don't even know where USC is could be wearing Trojan jerseys because of Reggie Bush. Ca-ching!

So Reggie, shame on you for even thinking you could benefit for being a great college football player. You have to wait until you are in the pro's before you can cash in. So all you college athletes out there be warned. You can't be paid for playing college sports.

Oh, by the way, here is your scholarship check. Thanks for choosing USC.

A New Season

Yes, it's almost that time. This is the last Sunday without NFL football for the year. Thursday night starts it out with a rematch of the NFC Championship game with the Vikings heading down to New Orleans to try to get some revenge on the Saints. It will be an entertaining game and I am sure the hype leading up to it will be almost overwhelming.

The Miami Dolphins will start out their season next Sunday with a visit to Buffalo. Everyone is expecting it to be an easy win for the Phins since the Bills haven't been to competitive in recent years. I think it will be a tough game and could be close. The next week will be especially exciting for me since I will get to see the Dolphins take on the Minnesota Vikings at the Metrodome. It's been eight years since I have been able to attend a Dolphins game and I am pumped up and ready!

Don't forget to tune into the DFO Radio Show every Monday night!
